Tibet is the highest region in the world, at an average elevation of 4,300 meters. Blocked by vast mountain ranges in the north, south, and west, it is one of the world's least populated areas. Tibet enjoys unparalleled travel resources, including Mt. Chomolangma ( Mt. Everest ), the highest peak in the world on the Sino-Nepalese border, the winding Yarlong Tsangpo River with the Brahmputra Great Gorge, and the Holy Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, as well as ancient ruins, palaces and monasteries, folkloric activities and religious ceremonies. Tourism resources in the region have been continuously developed. Lhasa is now the tourist centre with routes extending to Xigatse, Tsedang, Gyangtse, Xegar, Gongpo, Ngari, Nagchu and Chomdo, covering a total of more than 60 scenic spots and places of interest.
