Nepal is also the Gateway to Kailash Mansarovar, the mythical abode of Lord Shiva. Devotees from various parts of Nepal and India throng the temples during special festivals.
Pilgrimage sites of Nepal like Muktinath, Damodar Kunda, Gosainkunda and Monasteries in Solukhumbu, Mustang, Manang, Dolpo and Langtang region make popular trekking destinations. However, these days Muktinath is accessible by overland journey by road from Pokhara via Baglung and Jomsom. One can also fly to Jomsom and take a jeep ride to Muktinath. If you have little time and looking for the luxurious way then you can charter helicopter flight.

From Muktinath you can retrace your steps to Pokhara, or simply to Jomsom and hope to catch a flight from there. It is possible to continue beyond Muktinath and cross the Thorung La pass to walk the rest of the Annapurna Circuit but this long walk is better made in the opposite direction.
Gosainkunda is also popular destination and can be reached by trekking or by helicopter charter and likewise other destinations such Swargadwari, Khaptad Ashram etc.

Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha is accessible by road and by flight to Bhairahawa. Most of the famous site related with Lord Buddha like Kapilvastu, Tilaurakot, Arorakot, Gotihawa, Kudan, Niglihawa, Sagarhawa, Ramgram and Devdaha can also be reached by road. Some other important buddhist sites in and around the Kathmandu Valley are Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Mahaboudha, Golden Temple, Ashokan Stupas, Namobuddha and The Vihara. However, of all the monasteries in the Solukhumbu including the Tengboche Monastery and in Mustang, Manang, Dolpo and Langtang region can be reached by trekking or by the charter helicopter.
