The Bodhisatava manjusiri (Jampelyang) represents the body of Wisdom of all the Buddhas. When he takes the appearance of the terrifying Lord of Death, he becomes the Lord (Je) of the Dead (Shin) and thus is called Shinje. Being the Lord of the Death, he is also the ruler of the Three Worlds, which he protects.
